DJ Brookter

Dion-Jay Brookter

On behalf on Hunters Point Family we want to say congratulations to one of our partners and brother, Mr. Dion-Jay Brookter, for his recent appointment as Executive Director of the South East Community Facility (SECF). The Southeast Community Facility (SECF) and adjacent Greenhouses serve as a shared non-profit, educational and entrepreneurial space for organizations providing services for residents of the San Francisco’s Bayview Hunters Point community, and is the home to HPF’s administrative and workforce development programs.

In late 2009 Dion-Jay relocated to Northern California where he has served as the Deputy Director – for Young Community Developers Inc. in San Francisco CA. As the new SECF Executive Director, DJ will be responsible for all day-to-day support of the Southeast Community Facility Commission as well as programming, activities and revitalization efforts of the Southeast Community Facility and Greenhouses.   We look forward to working with DJ to implement his vision and energy to 1800 Oakdale and building a resource for the Bayview Hunters Point community.

EPA graduation

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Graduation

Congratulations to the 12th graduating class of the Green Jobs Training Program.  The Green Jobs Training Program, funded by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), trains young people in the area of hazardous waste removal and construction, and places them in jobs throughout the City.  Hunters Point Family, in partnership with YCD, was originally awarded the EPA’s Brownfields Job Training grant in 2011 and was re-awarded the grant in 2014. We are pleased to announce that HPF reapplied for the continuation of the grant and was awarded the grant for the third time in 2016.

The Brownfields Job Training grant specifically targets residents of District 10 to provide job readiness training, utilizing the empirically validated Roots of Success Training program, and provides over 7 nationally recognized certifications and awareness courses, including: OSHA 10, HAZMAT, HAZWOPPER, Lead Abatement, Asbestos Abatement, Confined Space, CPR & First Aid. The 12-week training program can be challenging, but we are proud of our graduates who persevered in an effort to make a better life for themselves and their families, through participating in the rehabilitation and renewal of the planet. We are proud that we have successfully placed over 86% of our graduates in the construction industry as a result of a strong partnership with Ms. Fatima Holmes of City Build, a construction job training program offered to residents, enabling residents to participate in rebuilding their communities.
